When Bob and I were hiking at high elevations, I would sometimes hear a long, high, wailing sound that I knew was a bird, but I didn’t know what kind.  It sounded like an old loose barn door that was being moved by a slight breeze.  I named it “the squeaky hinge bird.”  A few years ago someone gave me a book of bird sounds.  That is how I found out it was a nesting Cedar Waxwing.  Maybe their nests have hinged entrances that need oiling.
