DESIGNING WOMAN

PHOTO: MATCHING ENSEMBLE I DESIGNED IN HE 1950’s

When I was in grade school and high school I had designed some of my clothing but nothing very sophisticated.  After I married Howard and we moved to Metzger, I started designing all my clothes other than the blue jeans and T shirts that I wore most of the time.   We started going to church, so I wanted nice things to wear on Sundays.  This ensemble, consisting of a basic sheath with jacket, coat dress and coat was made of white sheer wool.  The sheath had an insert of horizontal tucks at the front of the neck which showed through the necklines of the jacket and coat dress.

I wore this raincoat with matching umbrella a lot until I lost the umbrella.  I had gotten an umbrella at the Good Will and made a new cover for it using the existing cover for a pattern.  So easy, but so good looking!

The leopard pants and vest were not something I wore to church!  In fact, I can’t ever remember wearing the whole outfit anywhere except at home.  I wore the vest though, with other pants or with a skirt. I made the shoes out of heavy leather for the soles and leather thongs for the straps.
