When Bob and I were married at the end of December of 1968, I still had two terms in architecture to finish at the University of Oregon in Eugene.  Jari had been invited to spend the rest of that school year with her father’s sister and her husband who lived on a ranch in Wyoming, so it was decided that she would go there for the last half of her Junior year in high school.  She came back in June at the same time I was through at the University.  Then both of us moved in with Bob.  She got a job at the YMCA for the summer, and then went to Lincoln High school for her senior year.  Eric was going to Lewis and Clark College, so at last the three of us were within shouting distance once again.

Because of the term I had taken off from the University, I had some Liberal Arts courses to finish in order to get my degree, which I did at Portland State.

Although Jari liked Bob, this was a difficult time for her.  Bob and I were both working and, just as before, she was alone and lonely.  She missed her Wyoming family where someone was always home, where there were three meals a day, and cousins her own age.

Eric came to visit, bringing his beautiful new girl friend, Beth Morgan, whom he later married.

After Jari graduated, she got a job at Saint Vincent’s hospital, and her own apartment in Northwest Portland.  The next year she started to Oregon State  College in Corvallis majoring in nutrition and dietetics.  She got degrees in both.  From that time on she was, and still is, my number one health adviser.

Both of my children ended up being my very best friends in all the world.
