There was a man named Owen Thompson who owned a very nice cabin on the east side of the Metolius River.  He was one of the Sherman County Thompsons and had been friends with the May family for years.  When I went to Camp Sherman to visit Mother and Jean and Mary, Mother arranged for me to visit him.  He seemed to enjoy my company and would let me fish for Dolly Varden trout in front of his house.  The fish were mostly bones, but it was fun catching them.  His house was full to the rafters with things he had picked up from the surrounding forest.  Most of them were odd shaped pine knots that looked like people or animals, the likeness to which he further enhanced by carving.  I loved my visits to Camp Sherman and wished I could stay there with my mother and sisters.
